Happy New Year from Georgia!
In just a few short days we will all be coming together
once again for the annual Georgia Watermelon Association Conference and Annual Meeting to be held
at the King & Prince Resort in St. Simons Island for a
educational sessions, recreational opportunities, the appointment of our 2017 GWA Queen and so much more!
If you have not yet registered for the conference, please
at the event.
Our watermelon promotional season concluded with
attending and exhibiting at PMA in Orlando, Marine
Corps Marathon and the Savannah Food & Wine Festival. At the MCM 11 tons of watermelon were handed
out to runners in over 80 degree temperatures! You
as they were handed samples of our ice, cold watermelon! Kudos to the NWPB for their hard work in organizing this promotion and thank you to Don Hiller for your
tireless efforts, hard work and for providing the fresh
cut watermelon in the refrigerated truck! A lot of hard
work and orchestration went into pulling off this promotion but it was well worth the effort and we are looking forward to MCM 2017! The Savannah Food and
Wine Festival had well over 6,000 in attendance. Queen
Savannah had the opportunity to promote the goodness
of Georgia watermelon to so many of the festival goers
during the weekend!
We are extremely proud of our 2016 Queen Andi Dick-erson and our First Runner-Up Savannah Hartley!
These young ladies have worked very hard this past year
promoting watermelon all across our state, across the
U.S. and into Canada. The 2016 Queen Tour has been a
great success and would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. THANK YOU to Borders Melons
East, Melon 1, NWPB and NWA for supporting the 2016
GWA Queen Program!
We can’t wait to see what’s on the horizon for our 2017
Queen Tour and are ready to begin promoting sweet,
GA Grown watermelon! If you would like to schedule
a date for our Georgia Watermelon Queen to visit your
location, please call Dawn Cheplick at 706-845-8575 or
firstname.lastname@example.org to book the queen.
Hoping all of you are making plans to join us at the
2017 GWA Annual Meeting in a few days in St. Simons
Island, GA! Safe travels to all of you who will be attending.
We wish everyone a healthy and prosperous New Year!
