Fall in North Carolina is still a great time to promote
watermelons and Queen Sarah has been to many events
across the state and nation.
The Marine Corp Marathon was once again a huge success for watermelon. Thanks so much to the NWPB,
the NWA and Class Produce for making it happen.
All of the state queen enjoyed seeing the sights and
promoting watermelon in Washington, DC. Our promotions at the marathon kicked off with the MCM
Health & Fitness Expo. Queen’s Sarah, McKenzi and
Madison shared the positive watermelon message with
the runners while distributing watermelon recipes and
nutritional information from the watermelon booth at
the expo. Saturday was the Kids Fun Run and all the
queens had the opportunity to interact with hundreds of
kids and cheer them on as they ran in the races. Then
lots of the kids and their families came by to enjoy
watermelon slices and coloring. Sunday was the big
marathon day! Thanks to Stephanie and the NWPB
staff we had a very successful day. Everyone worked
very hard to distribute the thousands of watermelon
cups to the marathon runners and they loved them.
What an impactful promotion for watermelon!
Ingles Market held a grand opening for its new store in
Asheville, NC and Queen Shelby was on hand to meet
customers and answer their questions about watermelon. It was a wonderful event with lots of consumers
coming to shop in the beautiful new store. Thanks to
Mr. Jim Ray and all the Ingles family for having us be
a part of the event.
The NC State Fair is one of the largest agriculture fairs
in the country, so Queen Sarah was invited to help
represent NC Agriculture during the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 NC State Fair. Also in attendance
was Senator Brent Jackson, NCWA board member and
watermelon grower from eastern NC. During the fair
Sarah also promoted watermelon in the PBS educational exhibit.
A fun event we do each year is the Food Lion Family picnic in Salisbury, NC. Thousands of Food Lion
employees come out for the day to enjoy the food and
fun of the festival and we supplied watermelon slices
and recipes to all the attendees. Queen Sarah shared a
watermelon story and helped the students at Brentwood
Elementary School learn how watermelons are grown.
All of the students loved the queen!
We look forward to seeing everyone in Lake Tahoe at
